Behavior expectations: Discipline is a learning experience that teaches children to respect themselves and others. It is the responsibility of adults to help children learn to get along with each other. The Wonderful Weekdays behavior policy was developed based on health and safety requirements. Children need reassurance that people who love them will guide, protect, and set limits that will keep them safe. By helping children learn what appropriate behavior is, we hope to foster positive behavior patterns they can build on in later years.
All children will be informed and reminded of the rules required to attend Wonderful Weekdays. Please review these with your child(ren).
I promise to follow directions, listen to the staff without interrupting, and speak politely, honestly, and respectfully without talking back or using bad language.
I promise I will treat the building and facilities, toys, games, puzzles, and books as if they were my own and not destructively.
I promise to keep my hands to myself and not to name-call or say things to hurt anyone’s feelings.
I promise I will walk and speak quietly inside and save my running and loud voice for outside.
I promise I will always get permission before I leave the group.
Discipline Procedures: Disruptive Behavior: If at any time, a situation cannot be diffused by staff, Wonderful Weekdays has no choice but to call the parent/guardian for immediate pick up of the child. Immediate suspension from Wonderful Weekdays will be determined by the staff supervisor.
When disruptive behavior occurs, Wonderful Weekdays staff will use the following process:
The child/children will be given a warning
The child/children will be given a time out and may be removed from participating in the activity. A parent/guardian will receive a written discipline report describing the disruptive behavior, in addition to oral communication. A parent/guardian is expected to sign this form upon receipt. One copy goes home and one will be filed in the child's file.
A conference is required with staff and a parent/guardian to discuss an appropriate behavior plan for the future. The plan will be documented in writing. One copy will be given to the parent/guardian and one copy will be placed in the child’s file.
Suspension from the program may occur if disruptive behavior continues.
Violent, Aggressive or Excessively Inappropriate Behavior: If at any time, a situation cannot be diffused by staff, Wonderful Weekdays has no choice but to call the parent/guardian for immediate pick up of the child. Immediate suspension from Wonderful Weekdays will be determined by the staff supervisor.
If a child exhibits violent, aggressive or excessively inappropriate behavior, the following disciplinary action plan will be followed. Excessive behavior may require an escalated process at the discretion of the Executive Director.
First Incident – Parents/Guardians will receive a written discipline report describing inappropriate behavior, in addition to oral communication. A parent/guardian is expected to sign this form upon receipt. One copy goes home and one will be filed in the child's file.
Second Incident – Upon receiving a second written discipline report, a conference with staff, parent/guardian and director is arranged to develop an appropriate behavior plan for the future. The plan will be documented in writing. One copy will be given to the parent/guardian and one copy will be filed in the child’s file.
Third Incident – After three incidences of extreme behavior resulting in a third written discipline report, the child may be dismissed from the program or a suspension with a clear action plan may occur. Any disenrollment will be approved through the board of directors.
